THE BREAKOUT PROJECT:
A social innovation festival
The Breakout Project is a 48+ hour event celebrating human ingenuity with the intention of positioning Canada as a leader in solving pressing social issues. This year, the festival brought together more than 20 speakers, a new online collaboration platform, a digital community, and seven ambitious social innovation projects.
Nordest supported the festival with production, design and logistics for their inaugural festival in Kingston, Ontario. We transformed the historic Fort Henry (originally constructed for the war of 1812) into a modern-day hub for innovation. What's the Wi-Fi password, you ask? We equipped the centuries-old stone walls with high-speed internet. To immerse the digital community in the experience, we executed a 10-camera live stream. Our online participants were able to tune in live to the main stage and check in to any of the festival's rooms. Beyond the live stream, we managed production for the entire festival and coordinated the fabrication of one of the stages. The Breakout Project is now slated to become an annual competition that Nordest will be co-producing in 2018.
